The Water Cube

The National Aquatics Center on the Olympic Green is host to water polo, swimming, diving, and any aquatic event for the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing. The structure is simply stunning, with blue glass that is bubbled out to make the structure look rounded. On the inside there are waterfall and glass which creates a very sleek, sophisticated look that even the most inattentive spectator can enjoy. It truly is like a large water filled cube. There have been many Olympic records that have fallen in the aquatics arena this year and many believe it is partly due to the design of the pool. The Cube has a pool that is deeper than most Olympic pools, and this allows for a calmer surface as the waves dissipate further below the water level. Also the edges are rounded which also help to calm the watrer. It truly is a stunning feat of architectural design.
